I saw this covered by Rachel Maddow on her program last week.

It's a very cool idea and could be very useful epidemiologically.

Some new data from the Kinsa Smart thermometers show temperatures of atypical fevers in Santa Clara County, which was one of the very first counties in California for implementing social distancing and "stay-at-home" policies.

Compare to the temperature data from Miami Dade County in Florida.

How do we know how many of these sensors are in a region and if it is a statistically valid sample?

All the sensors are online; this is not a "sample", it is based on total data. The founder of Kinsa has been gathering epidemiological data for Influenza for 8 years and is fully confident of the analysis.

But how many sensors are deployed in Miami Dade county and is it enough to make projections on the entire county or any locale for that matter.

Maybe I am not understanding what Kinsa is.
