Nice to enter in this very special site!

only 500km about :-)!!

I bought Homages in 2007 from a friend of mine at good price but with a little damage of glossy on the top that was became as white fog.

Some months ago I sent the Homages to Sonus Faber to renew the glossy of the pair. After 4 mounts they came back new as was made in 1993.

None was made for drivers and the sound is the same of before.

In my long life of "audioaficionado" I had listened a lot of speaker and many other I had made.

Homages are my definitive loudspeaker since I listened the first time for magic sound that they create all around in the listening room.

Because I am a very curious person, when the Homages came back home, I dissembled them to study as was made to understand the philosophy of project and why they have a so special sound...
If someone is interested I will be glad to share my thoughts....

Bye

Sonus Faber Guarneri Homage was made as was and are made the good violins. Non only the wood cabinet and glossy (altought after 20 years some trouble the glossy was shown) but the drivers too: the rubber ring of the woofer is perfect ....!

The grill, indeed, is too delicate and every 5, max 10 year, I had had to change (Sonus send the new grill kit if you ask it).

Bye

It is know the lute shape was designed to reduce the internal resonances sharing them in a large intervals of frequencies linked to variable internal geometry of cabinet. To today many companies make loudspeakers so designed.
The rear of the enclosure, shaped from a single block of limewood is glued with viscoelastic glue and kept in position with two screws partially unscrewed (I found all fours screws so) and two sheets ( copper and lead) tuning element glued on the internal part of this block with viscoelastic silicon glue. I think the rear block works as damper to reduce the structural resonances generated by drivers.
The stand works for the same goal: reduce the resonance leaving free the rear block.
The evolution of the work to reduce the box resonance finds in Guarneri Evolution it’s special stand with very special damper system.
IHMO the cabinet resonances are major influence on the speaker’s sound quality and the Homages reduced them with a genial project of cabinet 20 years ago.

I use NAD M5 amplifer and Cambridge NP30 digital transporter connected to NAS (liquid music files). To convert in digital files (FLAC format) I use Cocktail X-10, very speed and simple to use. As CD/SACD/Bluray reader I use Cambridge 751BD.

I love to listen jazz radios "in background" in streaming mode using NP30.

The speaker cables are Sommercable QuadraBlu in bi-wiring.
