Understood. I have never owned a pure class A amp like the E-650 and it looks truly spectacular. I was considering either the E-480 or going with the E-650 and while the E-650 should do well with my current speakers (deVore 0/96) my concern is would the E-480 leave more options open down the road if I decided to change speakers? (Heat production from the amp isn't a concern)

For many years, Accuphase was a child dream for me, impossible to reach. Now, I tried everything up to my budget limit, i.e. all the integrated amps and the 'small' separates. I wanted to hear on my own, but I can confirm what is said and what is logical: (1) if you add more money, you get more: the e-370 is better than the e-270, the e-470 is better than the e-370, and ... the c-2120/p-4200 combo is better than the e-470. Similarly, the c-2120/a-36 pair is better than the e-600. Etc. (2) the new series are better than the old ones: the e-650 is better than the e-600, the e-480 is better than the e-470, the c-2150/p-4500 is better than the c-2120/p-4200. Etc. It is amazing and really impressive how the engineers in this serious company always go further, and they never put on the market a new product with just a new face and not a new engine. No, the design is the same since years, but the technology behind is getting better and better. Now, all of us have a price limit. But I can tell from own experience that even a 'little' e-270 has the 'great' Accuphase sound, and this can be a start. And even if this is too much money, you can look for a second hand unit, and try to get a e-260 or older. Another question that I had, and that is impossible to answer is class A or class AB. This is a question of taste! The best would be to have two systems. It is like wine. Sometimes you want a white, sometimes a red. And usually, at a nice dinner, you have both. Enjoy your Accuphase trip, jbomd! |

Now, separate power amps have not more power, but are much more comfortable and at ease with more difficult speakers. Try! |
