Is Dennis Had still active?

I wonder if he has some Cary Audio customers from years ago who've been getting periodic tweaks or maintenance? I suppose I'd be interested in reaching out.

Dennis doesn't do anything with Cary products. He severed all ties several years ago. Besides, the Inspire line is a way better sounding product at a much lower price point, and is built by Dennis with his own two not so little hands. Cary products are typically built by a lady named Xu Li who hasn't ever heard what they sound like, and doesn't care anyway....

jh901,
There are still a few people out there who repair and upgrade some of the older Cary products but you kinda have to ask around and prepare to pay $, shipping too. Helps to find a local tech if you can. A local retired McIntosh tech upgraded my Cary SLI-80 and Cary V12R amps, and they truly sounded great afterwards. I also had a chance to compare to my former Inspire Hot Rod amp. It comes down to your preference, your room, your speakers too in regards to what "sounds better" to your ears with you speakers. Caps, Hexfreds, resistor upgrades can help with some of the older Cary Audio gear. Give it a try before you part with it, if you can. Good Luck.

Yeah, it cost less than what many people pay for an interconnect. I'm tempted to pick one up. I assume you purchased the Vali 2? Surprising at that price that they ship with a section-matched NOS 6BZ7 tube. Of course those are pretty cheap in quantity, they probably picked up a bunch for $2-$3 each.

Nice way to add a headphone option to an Inspire preamp. It can even double as a single-input tube preamp into a power amp.

Well the first listen sounded like an AM radio streaming Pandora through a Sonos.

I like it a lot better now that I changed the tube to a 7308 and had some time to listen. I can always hear a noticeable difference the first time I make changes and then it becomes the "normal" sound and I forget what it sounded like before I changed something
