I like the content, but my biggest gripe is the overcompressed sound.
Lately I've been listening to flac files saved on a SD card, and streamed music from my phone.

My biggest gripes are the repetition on the Classic Vinyl and other music channels and religious music on the Bluegrass channel.

I mostly use it to listen to television news channels in my car. I agree the sound quality isn't great.

I love my xm radio. I listen every time I climb in my car. Some days, I stream it while Iím working. I binge listen to Tom Petty Radio, Pearl Jam radio, and Grateful Dead channel. Those 3 channels make it worthwhile for me. Good selection for rock music in general.

With modern audio processing equipment there is no excuse for sloppy engineering with wildly varying levels. I'd find a way to bring it to their attention. Stefano Dipierro is their head of systems engineering - he'd be a good place to start.

There was a time for XM radio but I think that time is quickly going away. I subscribed in the past but no longer do. I get mailing from them every month with amazing deals but I never bite. With Spotify, Pandora, Tidal, and other options that let you download your selections to your phone and then play them via Bluetooth wherever you want, XM radio is rapidly fading. Thatís just my opinion of course.

I am like you. Sometime back I bought a 256GB SD Card and put all my albums in it (no mp3 tracks; only CD quality or high res files).

I no longer need a CD player in the car either since all my CDs are in the SD card!

I might have to look into that. It's really annoying and anyone who has even been in college radio should do a better job than some of these shows do.

I don't think it'll be going away very soon, there are still plenty of hosted programs which are mostly what I enjoy. Will it be around in another 10-15 years? I'm not as sure there.

Sound quality isn't a big concern in a car.

After all, with road noise, tire noise, A/C noise especially in the summer, the noise floor is about 60dB standing still, much more on the road.

There are a few channels I like--the sixties and seventies channels, The Met, Symphony, Broadway channels.

I've had XM for years and there is always something on. I love the "Buddy and Jim" show, Man there is a whole wealth of knowledge. I've toyed with the idea of a house or computer sub but haven't so far
