Craig - congrats on the new preamp! I really enjoyed reading your review. The C 1100 and MC 2301 combo is a real winner!

I made some measurements of the C 1100 with my Audio Precision System One + DSP.

Noise was an amazing -118 dB below rated output, A weighted.

Distortion was below the noise floor except at very low frequencies, where it reached .002 %. I looked at the 20 Hz distortion characteristics using the FFT portion of the analyzer and found 2nd harmonic to be -130 dB down and 3rd harmonic -133 dB down. There was no evidence of higher order harmonics.

This is exemplary technical performance for a tube preamplifier!

Glad it results in an outstanding listening experience as well. Enjoy this awesome combo in good health.

Tom

Congrats on the C1100! I just started out in this audiophile world. At first, I was looking at the C2300 (or C2500/C2600), but all these posts on the C1100 makes me want to hold out for one.

I keep seeing the C2300 and its successors on sale in the second hand market. It is definitely tempting as who knows when the C1100 will be available second hand.

Enjoy the C1100!

Gee, There is a very nice C2300 in our Marketplace. It is a great step into this world and one I could have happily lived with had other priorities dictated

Haha trust me, I know. I have been scouring various sites (mainly looking for 601s) and have seen the C2300 posted quite a bit. So far, I have been good at restraining myself. But it is awfully hard trying to balance between the "dream" setup and enjoying something right now.

The C2300/MC452 combo is staring me right in the face.

Nice thing about the C2300 (of many nice features) is there is no built-in DAC that is out-of-date the day you buy it.

Default PreAmp Exploration

After listening to my, new to me, C1100 for 98 hours, I have a good feel for its sound.

With Vintage_Tubes’ great sales on GoldLions, I jumped in and two days ago installed them in the output stages.

I have less than 10 hours on them now and can say they are detailed and ‘rounder’ than the OEM tubes. Not muddier. Maybe fuller is a better description than rounder.

Early hours but I expect them to get even better.

Craig,
Belated congrats on the C1100 - I listened to one the other day with 601s and the new SF Aidas. That combination was to die for. Looking forward to your impressions of the new tubes after you get some more time on them.

Congrats Craig! Hmm really interested in your thoughts on the new Tubes. I've never done this or truly never felt I needed to BUT most here really love the Gold Lions.

Again enjoy the new preamp!
