Listening to live music, whether it is rock, country, jazz or orchestral, is one of the ways we are able to carry the memory of the sound, the dynamics, and clarity home with us, enabling us to hear how wonderfully close our systems get to a real performance. Without hearing live music, you have no reference point by which to judge reproduced music.

Listening to live music or concerts only reinforces how far any system I have ever heard is from the real event. That does not mean I do not enjoy the hours I spend listening, rather I separate the two actions.

Jim.......I understand your point, and in fact that is the opposite side of the same coin. I don't believe in my lifetime I will ever hear reproduced sound that completely and thoroughly mimics live sound in every respect. I have enjoyed many live performances in large halls, and small jazz club venues, and found my system to be close in recreating the sound, and feeling associated with a particular place and performance. Was it exact? No. Was it close? Yes. Am I striving to reduce the gap? Absolutely.

I am sure you understood my point, though. Knowing what actual live instruments sound like, particulaly acoustic instruments and voices, offers a fair point of reference when evaluating your own system's performance, and others.

Mike.......Order the DVD. You will enjoy it more than once. It's a fine DVD to show off your surround system with. Best of all, the concert was great.

I agree with you but would like to expand on one point. I believe that most systems handle acoustic instruments rather easily which is why so many "audiophiles" use them to demo their systems. Vocals are a bit more difficult to accurately reproduce. Where I think most systems fail is in the reproduction of complex or very dynamic scores. Since I have yet to hear Ivan's system I am guessing that this is where his systems excels and why it can handle all types of music.

Sounds like you've been spending some time listening to Krell.
