thughes.......I had a similar situation. I purchased the MC301 one month before the release of the MCD500. I had no idea about the MCD500, or it's release date, so there I was with the MCD301, and wanting the MCD500. I wanted those dual quad DACs, and the two digital inputs, bad. I made it about one more month before I purchased the MCD500, and moved the MCD301 to my studio system. Once the MCD500 was in the main system, and I realized what an incredible player it is, I ordered a second MCD500, and sold the MCD301 on Audiogon. I took a bath on the MCD301 sale, but that's ancient history now. The MCD500 is the best source component I have ever owned.

I too got my 301 just before the 500 came out. I know I will move to the 500 for all the reasons you mentioned. I have a whole list of upgrades I want to make, and I guess I'm denying the "bath" on the 301 I know I will take.

Mitch,

I seriously doubt that you will have any regrets on that purchase. Enjoy your tunes!

My next investment is sure gonna be the mcd500, planning to afford it in juli or august. Looking really forward to it and what it should improve my experience playing itunes from the computer, since now im only using a simple mini rca cable ^^

My first mac was the mc501's. A fantastic day :P

Talking Just got my first Mc piece

I'm happy now with my first puchase, the MC2505 DeWick'ed. I would not call it the most detailed piece I have ever had, but it's a gret sound that give parts of the microdetails while staying consistent.

What makes this Mac really stand-out for me is that, if you have high-end equipment already, the cost for Mac reliability and consistency is near zero! How? The older Mac stuff (just like the new stuff) is tested to be 'near perfect' across the frequency spectrum. However, the old stuff (at least) got those results using cheaper RCA interconnect (no Audioquest or WireWorld or Nordost back in the late 1960's). So, when you get a fully restored Mac piece...YOU CAN SELL THE OLD PIECE AND ALL THOSE 'HIGH END' CABLES WITH IT!

I tried may interconnect with my Conrad Johson PV7/MC 2505 setup, but found the overall best sound with $6 RCA interconnect!! Man, this stuff (I call savings bonds that play music) pays for itself!

Now, I'm debating a C24 or C26 for the next move.......shoot, maybe at MX110! I'm sold on Mac for the duration.....

New Mac convert,

Marty

Welcome Afro18!

Once a Mc Convert always a Mc owner!

Post a picture of your MC2505.

Hold on to your wallet, it could fly out of your pocket and go over to the McIntosh Dealer! Worse things could happen to your wallet

Does the MCD500 have a 'viewing window' set into the top? Any purpose other than to watch the action?
