Of course not all water cooled iterations have been great (the 996 was awful), but both the 997 and 991 are very good cars with technology and performance specs that no air cooled Porsche can match.
Of course an air cooled Porsche can be made into a beast and brought up to date with the newest technology. Just bring one to Singer (oh and also bring several hundred thousand dollars) and you get the best of both worlds.
That said, I reserve judgement on the 2019 until I get to see it in the flesh.

No doubt about the air cooled. My golf R can run circles around my 993. I have the 993 really for sentimental reasons, not performance. It just, for me, represents a time in my life when I lusted for a 911 and when I finally got one was a proud moment for me.

I originally had a 997 but once I found my 993 I traded it in.

I think most of us were commenting on the styling, not the performance, the former being subjective obviously. I own a 51 year old Corvette, the same analogy applies IMO.

TO me they reached perfection in terms of shape with the 964.

I like them all, with the exception of the 996. I'll wait to pass judgement until I see it in person also.

was at the Philly car show this past week, typical Philly show, disappointing.........

Porsche display was just OK, while they had the 911 GT2 RS (350k) there was not one Cayman 718 to be seen, rather a 111k Boxster !

Think there is lots of VW influence at Porsche these days. Quite sad.

The styling of the 911 is a little long in the tooth already. I wish they would come out with something new . The front looks like a 997

Not sure what you mean by “these days.”

Porsche and VW have been tied up from the get go.

Ferdinand Porsche created the VW beetle.

And the Porsche/Piech families are major shareholders in both companies and are related.
