I was speaking to the UK distributor of the Vdh carts and he suggested I would prefer the black beauty to the colibri. he thought the black beauty had more weight??
How do you find the colibri compared to the LP in terms of bass.
I have been seriously looking at the colibri to replace my LP.

Tom,

I think you need to be a subscriber to post photos but I might be wrong. So I have posted it here for you assuming you don't mind. That Kuzma is gorgeous!

The sounds are quite different. The Colibri is more dynamic, fast and detailed compared to my LP which has a fuller bass, is smoother and more involving. They are quite complementary if you have a table with two arms.

I am keeping my LP for now and may be can get another table some time in the future for it.

Default Kuzma

thanks Howie
no problem, glad you were able to get the photo up.
Looking at your gear seems you have a pretty spectacular system there.
I love the solidity of the Kuzma - it weighs 94 Kg and the slate and granite table almost as much again. Produces a very powerful sound.
I have thought about investing in another arm tower to run two cartridges, maybe the next step.

Default Colibri XGP v Black Beauty Special X

I replaced the BB with the Colibri. They are both great cartridges. My Colibri is no where near run in but I can say I think I like it better. Its more open with greater dynamics but its very close. I was happy with the BB but got such a good deal on eBay for the Colibri that I went ahead and I am glad I did. However the Black Beauty, the Special X version, is a very nice cartridge indeed.

Very nice. Am sure it sounds as good as it looks. Vdh seems to have become somewhat rare on this side of the Atlantic for some reason.

Howie, you've got the right idea with the complimentary cartridges...

Not all records are mastered equal. It's nice to have one with more detail and one with more warmth if you can.

Howie! I've been trying, but he said that less than 1% of their customers have requested it, so it's not worth the tooling. Guess I'll just have to buy a 2nd Acutus SP Ref!
