Ivan.......The information presented by graphing frequency response certainly does have value. To begin with, the test equipment is not subjective. The tests are visual representations of actual events. The test equipment has no agenda, it simply offers its values.

Early in this discussion Scott made mention that his HD800 "really lacked bottom end". We know that one way to make the bottom end more apparent is by reducing the top end. If one considers the 8 dB dip at 8000 Hz and again at 14,000 Hz that isn't happening on the HD800, it might be reasonable to argue that the bottom end on both headphone is equal, but made more apparent on the HD700 with the high frequency dips. Looking at the graph provides information that supports that point.

I'm still not so sure, I A/B them with Sheffield's Drum Album and what I heard was really profound. I know the graph is what it is, just doesn't equate to the end result at the lower frequencies where these two should be equal.

With open back headphones, in the higher frequency spectrum, yes. In the low end, not so much.

Open back headphones that measured perfectly flat wouldn't sound so nice.

I cant argue with the test results, but my findings, preference and experience all point to the 700's being the preferred can, for ME.

Whatever the reasons or apparent disagreements may be, these do look like a very nice headphone and I would like to hear a pair...

Scott.......I am not pro or con either headphone at this time. I only presented data that I was able to locate and posted it here for the sake of a discussion. I have not auditioned either the HD700 or the HD800. For all I know, I may prefer the sound of the HD700, too. Since I am not a serious Head-Fi guy to begin with the Sennheiser HD600 I use occasionally in my office with the Musical Fidelity X-CAN V8P works fine for me at this time. If the opportunity to audition the HD700 and/or the HD800 presents itself, I will be happy to do a review on my experience.
