So if I’m ordering a Gold Lion tube set for a McIntosh MC275 VI, the amp labelling calls out 4 ea KT88, 3 ea 12AX7A, and 4 ea 12AT7. The Gold Lions list a 12AX7 but not a 12AX7A, is it there a difference? Also, for the 12AX7 and the 12AT7 offered for sale, there are the options of: balanced triodes ($2.00 each); high gain ($2.00 each); low noise & microphonics ($4.00 each); as well as tube matching ($2.00 each). Besides tube matching, would I want to select the other options, if so, why?

Stahle.......No problem replacing 12AX7A with 12AX7 tubes. The heater element in the 12AX7A version was designed to be used in series or parallel heater circuits so the heater element can support higher current loads, whereas the 12AX7 version is designed to be used in parallel heater circuits. Virtually all modern amplifiers use parallel heater circuits. When shopping for the Gold Lion 12AX7 and 12AT7 tubes make sure you purchase the gold pin versions manufactured in the Russian factory.

I would not pay for any additional services except perhaps tube matching.

I just received this email from Tube Depot informing me that my 12 matched Gold Lion KT88 power tubes are back ordered.

It appears at the time of your order 11 were in stock and one was backordered. However the remaining 11 are not matching stock and are of various numbers. As soon as our next shipment comes in we will begin testing and will have the tubes headed your direction.

I am in no rush with no urgent need for the tubes. I'm sure the KT88's will be delivered before too long.
