Can the speaker go directly next to the rear wall? Would it be too boomy?
The recommended placement is 0.5 m but I don't think we have the space. |

Shiny gloss black 802d3 in the house now.
Boy they are hefty speakers to move out of the box. Sounded pretty decent straight out of the box. Will let it run 24/7 for the next week or so. Impressive to look at. Some thoughts again on hearing it at home with basic belden IC and powercords and MIT AVT2 biwire. Formidable low end, transparent, clean and super clear, some texture/body to the voice (needs more running in), the layering of instruments and voice sounds too distinct (hope it will blend in better with time), tight detailed bass, excellent timbral, extended airy high, good soundstage. Bass not boomy. It is positioned approx 0.3 m from the rear wall. Don't have any room treatment apart from large furniture. Sounds pretty good still. Happy with the purchase! |

Ha. Just found out my access level cannot load image.
I hooked up my primare 100w to run in the speakers last night and guess what? It sounded great! The sound is leaner, less bass and cleaner than the macs but still the timbral crisp highs is pretty good for an integrated. Very listenable. Not sure what happened there at my dealer with my amp hooked up to the 803d3. It sounded crap...but if it wasn't that, I wouldn't have bought the macs which I enjoy. The bottom end is really impressive with the macs. How long do you think is necessary to break it in? 150 hours? My dealer said 1000 hours. I think B&W should still improve on their woodwork. Can see the imperfections on the side curved panels. My yamaha gloss black piano sets the standard. Haven't put down the spikes yet. Wait till it is run in and then will listen closely to determine the best placement. |
