Sort of like my stockpicking - buy high, sell low!
Speakers that Have bought me: - HH Scott (no idea of the model) - Magnepan MG2 ( bought a station wagon to cart them to college. Yes, in a dorm room) - Spica TC50 - still in my living room - Omega 5 + subwoofer - Devore Super 8 (main unit) - Polk RS-CDS (just bought in yard sale) - I am now considering moving up the Devore line to wwork with my Shindo pieces. Wow - some pretty impressive lists. Very short list for me.
1. I got some speakers from a company called AES (Audio Electronics Systems) in high school and had them forever. Sounded decent to me with my 1980's Technics receiver and Denon direct drive turntable! 2. Meadowlark Kestrel Hot Rods - still have them in my office. Very sweet sound 3. Linn Katans (Aktiv) monitors and Akurate 221 subwoofer 4. PSB Image 1B's in the guest room |

If the question is what did you have in the past that you really loved then I must add that I owned Fried C3 satellite/sub. Fried was not well known but I really loved those speakers. They had a great sound stage and could play loud and clean which was important to me in those days. I'd play rock or something like Verdi's Requiem or Berlioz Symphonie fantastique at shall we say appropriate volumes. They gave me many hours of listening joy.

My speaker history is not as elaborate or as expensive as some of you guys. But its been alot of fun over the last 40 years.
Early 70s - Infinity 1001A powered by a Marantz 2240 receiver Early 80s - JBL L150A powered by first the Marantz 2240 receiver then by a Yamaha R2000 receiver (150 watts/channel) 2000 - Paradigm Reference Studio 100 V2 powered by Sherbourn power amp (200 watts/channel) Currently - Sonus faber Liuto towers (piano black) powered by B&K Ref series 2 power amp (200 watts/channel) I've enjoyed all these systems over the years. I believe music keeps us young no matter how old we really are. |

Love it! Any links to the original "spec sheet"? I could only find low resolution blurry images on the web.

Speakers I have owned and loved:
Quote:
I was wondering when somebody would catch this! The Rear Axial Softspeaker was about the only thing at the time that was bigger than the Electro-Voice Patrician 800 from the mid 1960s. Here's a link for the Patrician 800: Rare EV Electro-Voice Patrician II 2 or III 3? with 18WK 12W T25A HD-6 T35 X2635 | eBay http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...FRAf18Lpj3MSrw The Patrician series was truly a legendary speaker. One thing I'm sure everyone will find amusing is that in the Patrician 800 spec sheet, they say amplifier connections with 18 gauge zip cord would be fine, and in the 1960s, they really meant it! For those who don't know, the Patrician was a massive 4 way speaker with a 30" woofer that made the big old Bozaks look small. If you asked me for a real paper spec sheet on the Rear Axial Softspeaker 40 years ago, I would have had it. Here's the clearest copy I could find: Electro-Voice SP13.5RBXWK Rearaxial Softspeaker This spec sheet requires careful reading. I'll do some checking for a clearer copy, but I'm sure it will take some doing. The Rear Axial Softspeaker was supposedly driven to its full potential with this amplifier: http://www.crownaudio.com/pdf/legacy..._datasheet.pdf When used in a home theater, the recommended audio processor was this: http://www.rane.com/pdf/pi14dat.pdf Last edited by GaryProtein; 05-31-2012 at 09:32 PM. |
