Audio related pet peeves

I don't show my toys to my friends because I don't think they care much for it so I don't waste my time.

This is perhaps some OCD, I don't like scratches/marks on my gear. I would sometimes go as far as getting replacement parts to fix it or buy a new one. That may be the reason why I don't usually buy used.

+2....I can't stand to get a scratch or defect on my gear. But I will buy used gear.....as clean as possible, of course.

Another big peeve for me is the slightest hum, or buzz however low. I don't care if it can only be heard with my ear up against the tweeter...

Another pet peeve of mine is having to ask my neighbor down the road to come over and help me move amps. When I was younger, and tougher, I didn't need assistance. Some of our gear is just too damn heavy for me to move alone anymore. I'm going to need him to help me with the new MC452, I'm sure. Each time he comes over he starts in telling me how great the sound is that he gets through his old cathode ray TV speaker from DirecTV music channels. His TV speaker his sound system. Every time he is over here he says. "Why do you need all this stuff?" Yep, he gets under my skin from time to time, but at least he helps me when I need it.

Life is too short to worry about this, if you love it that is all that matters . Anyone who has been in my 2 channel room has had nothing but good things to say once they heard it. Not everyone likes the same flavor of ice cream. Happy

Ivan.......Yep, a buzz or a hum drives me nuts, and I become obsessed with tracing the problem and curing it. That is always a raw deal.

Ha! I have an engineer friend like that. He is always telling me how none of this stuff makes a difference.

When we were just out of college in the early 80's he and his wife came over to my house after I had just bought an Oracle Delphi and she said "Why did you spend all that money on a turntable that only plays one record?"

Then six months later when I bought my first Porsche, she said, "I'd never let my husband buy a car like that...."

And I think that was the last time I saw her.

Jeff.......My neighbor is a good guy, but he has zero interest in audio or high def television and movies. I am ok with that until he starts in about how great his picture looks on his 20" 4x3 cathode tube standard def TV. He says it looks as good as my Sony 52XBR9 displaying 1080p. I use to try to educate him, now I just shake my head and let him think whatever makes him happy. He is a big sports guy, too. I would think an NBA game in high def would knock his socks off, but not him.

As for the guy who's wife would never let him drive a car like that, well she'd be an ex in a hurry. Any woman trying to run my life is a huge pet peeve.

Yeah, you just can't tell some people, Dan...I go through it too, and I am sure many of us here do.
