bdowell.......I hear you. I use to carry my little radio everywhere. My parents told me not to take it to school (4th grade), but I did. The first day I carried it in my shirt pocket. During recess we were playing baseball. I missed catching a softball pitch, and the softball hit me right in the pocket with the radio. Yep, demolished it.

This is the truth. In my previous life I was a realtor in an upscale resort area in southern California. I knocked on the door of a famous musician to see if he wanted to sell his lakefront mansion. He wasn't there but I got a tour of the house by the caretaker. Low and behold was a Bose speaker system. Tini Tini speakers mounted to the cathedral ceilings in a massive living room . I was so disappointed. And yes this person also owns a major recording studio.

I've had friends over and they come into my dedicated music room and say, "how does this compare to Bose?". I politely reply, " it doesn't compare, but it'll do" ;-)

---I just spent the last hour or so in trying to locate a picture of my very first portable AM transistor radio (9 volt battery powered, and six (6) transistors, or maybe more, like 7).
It came with a brown leather (or perhaps black) carrying case, and had a mini mono phono jack (headphone). It was a deluxe Toshiba model one (wider style than the regular higher model types). And the front face was all metal (very solidly built and true hi end). It was much heavier than the plastic ones. And the reception was top-notch, first-class.

Anyway, it was a birthday gift from my Grand Ma when I reached seven, or eight.
And maybe it was eight (8) transistors too. ..Nine transistors (9)?

I still miss it to dis day. ...Dat was back in 1959. ...Or was it 1949?
Yep, 1962 or 63, just before the Beatles.
Was FM yet invented?

I too, have a Bose system IN MY CAR! as well as three Bose clock radios in the house. Their alarm clocks are really LOUD, which I require, albeit completely NON-intuituive to set up.

I am careful when people bring up stereo systems in the general population.

We audiophiles, who may spend much more than many people's yearly salary on a system have to be congnizant and sensitive not to offend other people.

If people ask what I use, I tell them, but most of the time, they haven't any idea about what I am describing. Besides, most people, don't want anything that takes up 80-100 square feet of floor space.
