Congratulations, brodricj! How are you enjoying the N-01 so far?

Are you able to tell if Roon and MQA are enabled? Thanks.

N01 is a terrific sounding DAC. However I can't get it to work for network playback, and yesterday I was having issues with usb playback. I don't use Roon and have no interest in Tidal MQA.

For network playback of N-01 or N-05, you need to:
- Install the freeware MinimServer to a computer or NAS, set it up to scan your music folder
- Connect the Esoteric using a network cable to the same WiFi router as your iOS device
- Choose Network input in Esoteric
- Install the Esoteric Sound Stream app to your iOS device (which you've already done)
- In the app, choose MinimServer as library, and choose Esoteric as the renderer
- Alternatively, plug in a USB flash drive (NTFS or FAT32 format) with music to the Esoteric and choose it as the library

I've done all of the above except minim server. I'm using a QNAP NAS with its own Music Station 5 software.

The N01 keeps dropping its LAN connection and I'm not sure why. I would assume whilst N01 was connected to the LAN it would get and maintain a LAN IP. Or it might only establish a LAN connection whilst NETWORK is the selected source. All I know is it's not always on the network when it's powered on and connected to the router.

How do you observe the N-01 drops connection? Does the network LED no longer flashes? If it does not flash, you need to try a different network cable to a different port on the network switch.

What network and USB cables are you using?

What model of switch or router?

DHCP or static UP assigned to the N-01?

Personally, if it drops network connection when Network is not the source, that is a good thing. There is no reason to have the noise from a NIC when you are not sourcing from the network.

I have a high-end network infrastructure that reports when LAN clients come and go, so I know what is on the network, and what has been on the network.

MinimServer installed on the QNAP was the solution to the problem. N01 network playback now working. The Esoteric Sound Stream UI is very clunky compared with what I am used to with Kaleidescape. If only I could import SACD into Kaleidescape and have N01 connect with the Kaleidescape environment would be the perfect music playback system.

What I am yet to establish is how N01 playback of SACD content via network compares with my PS Audio DirecStream Memory Player + DirectStream DAC.

I have multiple Kaleidescape Strato/Terra Servers also, my Esoteric Network Servers are just as robust network wise.

I found an issue with the network switch that was likely resulting in the N01 dropping off the network. Rebooting the switch solved that problem. For sure that N01 maintains the network link irrespective whether NETWORK is selected as the source.

It's early days but at this stage I prefer the sound of Kaleidescape player connected to NO1 via digital RCA playing red book CD compared to .dsf files played via network link.
