My first post: "Poor Man's C1000"
Hi everyone. This is my first post after having lurking around in the background on various forums for several years reading, researching, learning, yearning and drooling about McIntosh. Whenever I could, I went to various places, audio stores and friends' houses to do listening, gazing, touching and additional drooling...
Even though I was fully aware of it from the beginning, eventually I caught a very bad case of the LuFlu--somewhat similar to the strand that many of you are experiencing, recovering, or trying desperately to avoid. As I came to find out, it was impossible for me to "play with fires" without getting tanned, singed, scorched, toasted or burned. In my case, all of these manifestations occurred nearly at once. The LuFlu has taken its course of attack in me and I was totally succumbed to it. The effects of this flu were so detrimental to my bank accounts and caused me to work extra hard at shoring up the relationship with my better half a few times too often. The combination of great music, great wine, and great gear is beyond addictive and it hit me like a bad case of an opium addiction. The only difference was this addiction is legal and somewhat expensive... I started out replacing a preamp in my existing system with a new C2300. In a sudden, all hell broke loose on me. I knew I was far from Nirvana but that realization dragged me even further into my new-found addiction... To satisfy the ravaging torments inside me, I ripped out my existing amplifier and replaced it with a pair of MC1.2 KWs... By then, I knew the LuFlu was incurable and it caused me to start setting up a "second" system with an addition of a MA7000. I got a bit "carried away" (according to the wifey) and added a MCD500 after having consulted with the Master for a possible cure. No cures were found but on the other hand, the manifestation worsens... A brand new pair of MC275s is on the way to join their brethren in a week or two...My mid-life crisis has occurred a few moons before am physically there. Help! Now, here is a question for all of you as my new-found precious friends and mentors, hoping and wishing that you would accept me into this "hood": How do I hook up all of these pieces to have somewhat of a "Poor Man's C1000" system with "configurable tube/solid state controller and preamplifier" using just one set of speakers? Is it possible without smoking anything? I mean not shorting or blowing up fuses, tubes, tweeters, speakers, etc... Please help this rookie so that I won't have to think about a real C1000! My wifey would really spank or even kill me...if I do. I am still paying for the last "I Do" twenty years ago... I have some BWs, KEFs, Totems, and Harbeths but eyeing...you know what! Phil.......Welcome to Audio Aficionado.
 You can use the C2300 Speaker 1 or Speaker 2 outputs to feed the preamp signal to the MC275 amplifiers., while at the same time feeding the main preamp outputs to the MC1.2Kw amps. What you cannot do is connect both the MC1.2Kw amps and the MC275 amps outputs to the same speaker terminals at the same time. If your speakers have multiple input terminals for woofers, midrange/tweeters, you can remove the jumpers between these speaker posts, and then terminate the MC275s to the mids/tweets, and the MC1.2Kw to the woofer inputs in a passive biamp configuration. I would suggest that once you have all your gear on hand, and you have an idea how you want to configure it, come back to this one for more advice. Someone here will walk you through it. If your deepest desire is to be able to switch input sources between tube and solid state preamps at will, the C1000 is the way to go. Good luck (with the wife).

Secondly, you have it BAD, my friend....you have my deepest sympathies, uhm, I mean, congratulations! Dan is right, if what you really want is to readily switch between tube and solid state, and do it properly, then the C1000 is the way to go. (I hate to tell ya....)
