Default C45 Replacement

When is the replacement for the C45 going to be announced - or is it just being discontinued because of insufficient sales? My initial thought is that McIntosh want to standardize on the TM2 tuner module so will change the innards of the C45 to accept the newer technology. I also wouldn't mind a RoomPerfect module (included or optional) to keep the number of boxes in my rack to a minimum.

I am just guessing but there is not much demand these days for pre-amps that will handle multi-channel audio inputs. Neither multi-channel SACD nor DVD-Audio took off. Multi-channel audio with video is handled by the MX units.

I would mind the TM-2 unit being able to work with the MR-85....

The advantage of the C45 design is that the processing can all be done in the player. You upgrade players to new formats etc. and never have to change the preamp.

Graham.......I can see your point, and Jim's point. The one thing about surround processors is they will grow with the formats, particularly with respect to the number of channels. The C45 is good with seven plus one sub channels, but what happens when the latest and greatest calls for nine channels, and two subs, or any other configuration. The surround processor evolution will encompass these changes. Then again, if you're like me, I'm good with 5.1, and really don't care what comes down the pipeline.

Graham.......Then trade that puppy on the C1000C/P, and you won't need to ponder the next new preamp.

I use the C-45 in a two channels only system and it's a keeper

I understand the the benefits of the C-45 being able to pass new codecs, I just think McIntosh did not see a big enough market for a video only product to keep it it the line.
