Yes - and he's using a 6189 (12AU7) in place of the normal 6H30/6N1P/etc. 6 volt tube. Can you do this? That opens up the tube-rolling potential even wider (oh no...).

Hi Aercool and fellow KT150 guy,

This is what Dennis emailed to me a few weeks ago about driver tubes for our amp (note to others, I don't know to what degree this would apply to his other amps):

Quote:
The 6H30 is a low mu driver capable of actual power drive. The 6N1P, 6H1P, 6922, 7308 and 6CG7 are just a few tubes that will function well in your amplifier as the driver. Personally my favorite is the 6H1P (6N1P) for the weight in the lower registers I hear.
The 6189 isn't listed, but Dennis said those listed are just a few of the tubes that will work. And he has the KT88, so who knows (besides DH that is! )?

.

The "Fire-Bottle" arrived at the office today, so I don't yet have it in hand. The Pope tubes also arrived from Upscale and I will try them out as well.

Hopefully I'll retrieve it tomorrow. I really enjoyed working with Dennis on this. What a great guy!

Bill... Beautiful! I love that copper. I have the Jag Carnival Red which I'm very pleased with, but I would feel the same way about the copper.

I look forward to your impressions of the Popes vs. the tubes that Dennis included.... Zenith? Much bigger than the Popes. Are they 6V6?

PS, I don't know what the Zeniths are. He went to the shop last Sunday (during the Masters!) and compiled the list of tube combinations you posted. That must have been one of the tubes he tried, but I don't see them on the list.

Wow, what a colour that copper is. Interested to see how the Popes stack up against the stock tubes. Did you get them cryo treated from upscale?

Simon, No, I just ordered the Popes off their web site a few days ago. I did not talk to Kevin. I also sent an email asking about their PS5 deal, but have not received a response.

Wow, first listen to the 6v6 and I'm sold. I can honestly say I didn't know the potential of my Zu superfly's.
