Default Art Dudley....is he a little too out there at times?

Don't get me wrong, I love Art's writing...he's basically the only reason I read Stereophile.

But sometimes I wonder about Art...for example, take this quote when reviewing the Voxativ Ampeggio speaker last month:

"Is there any pleasure more quintessentially male (Art's emphasis) than powering-up the hi-fi when the family's off to bed, pouring a glass of port, killing the lights, and brooding over the music of Mieczyslaw Horszowski, Mindru Katz, Vlado Perlemuter, or Josef Hofmann?"

WTF???

Quintessentially more male the brooding over the music of Mieczyslaw Horszowski, Mindru Katz, etc?

Uh, yeah...goin' out and smokin' through a corner draggin' your knee at Miller Motorsports Park on your sport bike IS more quintessially male...

brooding over the music of Mieczyslaw Horszowski, Mindru Katz, Vlado Perlemuter, or even Palestrina is, uh.....not.

Art,dude, get a grip!

I don't know, I enjoy both. Bikes are fun, so is music. They stimulate different parts of the brain for me.

Serge,

I agree that crankin' up some AC/DC, Eric Clapton, Coldplay or Led Zep is quintessentially male, just like ridin' yer bike through the twisties....

...but Mieczyslaw Horszowski, Mindru Katz, Vlado Perlemuter? Quintessentially male?

Not.

Ah, common, so Art likes some truly great pianists, so what?

Stephen, there are thousands of things one can consider "quintessentially" male, all depends on level of risk you're willing to take, how much adrenaline you need to feel "alive" and your testosterone levels.

Just because many males don't feel the need to risk life and limb does that really make them less male? I love motor-sports of all kinds but most of my friends couldn't care less. Whatever turns you on as they say.
