Thanks Terry...

If Dan doesn't talk me out of this amp I will probably order a quad of the Gold Lions to see what the fuss is about...

... oh and by the way, all the tube sets were matched by Doug. That's the writing on the tubes and on the boxes.

David.......You are correct about the efficiency, although 5-10 watts is pleasant, 50-60 watts is astonishing.

I would like to know how you folks are managing the "power" of the 275.

Stock cords?

Power conditioner?

Dedicated 20 amp lines?

I have my 1201's right into the wall and 20 amp dedicated line for each. Not sure I should do that with the 275's. Any input is appreciated...

I was running my 275 with a Wireworld PC plugged into my RGPC 400 which is plugged into a dedicated 20 amp circuit.

Wireworld Balanced IC's running direct into MCD500

Kimber 8TC speaker cables running to PMC OB1's.

The sound was absolutely fantastic. Different than with the 501's, but fantastic.

As had been said a million times before. You will probably not find better mids than with a set up like this.

Thanks

The Kimber 8TC spk cble seems popular. I have some of the cables you do....may emulate your setup....

Dan....what cable will you use to "jumper" your amp for mono?? The pure bare silver you have used on your speaker terminals....or....

Kimber Kable - 4TC Speaker Cable - Jumpers-Audio Advisor

or

Homegrown Audio Co. | pure silver audio cables - Products - Speaker Jumpers

JC.......I made some 8" jumpers this afternoon from Kimber 8TC. I seperated the blue and black wires, stripped the ends, twisted the conductors, and silver soldered the ends. They are ready to go in the MC275's once the second one arrives.

I found myself in a tube rolling mood this afternoon, too. When I was done swaping tubes and listening to the same music over and over again, I finally settled on the Philips 12AT7 and the Tung-Sol 12AX7 tubes like I had originally intended to install.

What got me started today was a sense that the Cremona Auditors might be sounding a bit bright. That started me swapping small tubes in the MC275, first the 12AT7's, and after some additional auditioning, the 12AX7 tubes. What I discovered was the Mullard's were a bit bright sounding. I remembered after experimenting today that I had come to the same conclusion about the Mullards when I was tube rolling my C2200, and my C2300 preamps. Mullards were bright in both of the preamps, too. Once the Philips and Tung-Sol tubes were installed the voicing I prefer came to life. That tiny edge of brightness in the upper midrange smoothed out, and the silky mids and highs are now in perfect harmony. I have about six hours of listening to the tube system now. The new tube arrangement is the way to go, IMO.

I was back at Tube Depot's website tonight ordering four more Philips 12AT7's and three more Tung-Sol 12AX7's. They will arrive a day behind my Gold Lion KT88's, but will still be here before the MC275 is delivered. All is good.
