Sound quality should really not be affected by tap choice. If the amplifier has 6 ohm taps, those are the ones I would use with those speakers.

Don't get drug into the technical side of this. If your speakers are rated at 5 ohms nominal, use your 4 ohm taps on your MC601's and be happy.

I don't believe you have 6 ohm taps Mike -- (if we're speaking 601's).

Best Sir,

Bob

Yes my apology, I meant to say 8 and 4 ohms tap and the manual of my speaker says,
7 ohms nominal 4 ohms minimum, again, can I use either tap?

Eric,

While I can’t find it right now, there is a picture of a slide from a McIntosh engineer that shows the impact on sound from moving to the 2,4 or 8 ohm taps. If I remember, generally, less highs at the lower taps up to 3 dB and more bass at a higher tap...

They were demonstrating ‘tuning’ a system by using the various taps, so it seems they feel there is a difference in sound amongst them.

When I had my Infinity IRS Betas, the 4 ohm taps were definitely sweeter and less bright on my Upper panels than the 8 ohm taps. The 2 Ohm taps were dull sounding.

Craig
