Hi Rick ~ In my opinion, the "stereo sound" I get from our old MX130 can compete with any of our newer (or older) McIntosh units. If you don't have a need for anything beyond 2-channel stereo music, a nice clean MX130 will certainly do the job extremely well.

Thx. If things work out I will pick up a real nice MX130 on Saturday. Unfortunately I won't have any money left for a nice amp. I am looking at a pair of Marantz MA500 mono blocks to use for now. These will will used with a pair of Linn Keilidh's.

Last I knew, your deal for an MX130 fell through. Did you end up finding one?

We are in the same age cohort, so I do not not question those observations. However, even with our aged ears, the distinction between such synthetic 5.1 creations and native discrete 5.1 is significant. I cannot tolerate the former and much prefer hearing those performances in their original unsullied stereo form.
