Have you had any problems with the USB drivers on your Mac? I was reading the review for the DAC-2 at 6moons and the reviewer seemed to have a few problems getting the USB to work properly. I honestly had a hard time following the review, but he talked about his Mac crashing, static and distortion when using USB, and problems getting it to output the correct data rates.

I'm considering one of the W4S DACs, but I'm a bit leary of proprietary drivers. Because of this I'm leaning toward the DAC-1, but would appreciate any feedback about the DAC-2.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I am using the DAC 2 with the current model Mac Mini. I have zero problems.

It sounds fantastic, the driver installed properly and there is certainly no noise or distortion of any type as everything is dead quiet. In the past I have seen where certain high resolution transfers were affected by cables and this did cause weird noise issues. I have both a Wireworld and a Cardas USB cable that each perform flawlessly.

I would not worry as this is an awesome product and I have had it playing almost non-stop for about a month now.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the feedback on the DAC-2 drivers. I'm definitely interested in getting one, but they are still in short supply and there are none available in Canada right now. So I think I'll wait for the initial demand to die down and make sure all the bugs are worked out before making my final decision.

Thanks again,

Andrew

This unit is on my short list along with either keeping a 2 year old Cambridge 840c that I have a compelling buy offer on from someone, one of those new Antelope Audio Zodiacs, or the Perfectwave setup from PS Audio. And maybe a few other things. Tough decisions.

Great forum!

EDIT: Sold my 840c this morning to a gentleman that really made an offer that I would have been unwise to turn down.

I trust you DAC-1 and 2 owners are still pleased? Any new owners yet?

EDIT: Order placed for DAC-2.

EDIT: Took delivery today and could not be more impressed if I tried. I think this thing is a blind steal at its asking price. Face and the others were right. This thing's incredible and I, too, see myself keeping it for a long, long time.

Default Nealry there in the decision process....

Has anyone compared this DAC to the Sim 300D? I realize with the Sim I need a preamp ... although a tube pre is on the horizon.

I'm on the cusp of purchasing the Dac2....

How does it work with lower res feeds like Pandora? Is that also vastly improved?

I have a Sonos system and Arcam DV139 which will likely become the transport for the DAC. Which will feed a Halo A21 via balanced interconnects and through Wilson Benesch Curves.

I am excited about the DAC-2 also and will get one as soon as my funds will allow. I think that there were a lot of folks that were scratching their heads over the 6moons review. It was all over the map, but the appreciation for the DAC2 did come through fortunately!
