Default Network Server Question

A question for those of you who better understand internet access than I.

Normally I access the internet with pretty good speeds. I use Comcast and when I run either Speedtest or SpeedofMe the results come back at around 175mbps. I thought a couple of sites were a bit slow this morning so when I ran Speedtest it came back with numbers only around 50mbps via a Comcast server. I then chose a different server and it returned normal numbers in the 180mbps range.

My question is there any way I can direct my access to the net thru the faster server?

About a month ago I had to call Comcast and ask them to do something on their end to return my speeds to the ~175-180 range.

I have the Blast and I get 200+ consistently.

I think the speedtest server you select is just a server you are hitting for the test, you can't route your internet through a specific server. So the best you can do is pay for the Blast or whatever the best they offer in your area is, and have a tech from comcast come out and check your signal strength. I had some issues and they put a booster on my line and it solved the problem.

Default Network Server Question

You guys are killing me! Where I’m at, I’m limited to wireless service via Motorola Canopy to a tower about a mile away....14mbps. I’d kill for “only around” 50mbps!

Ivan, my normal speeds of ~175 mbps handles everything nicely including 4K streaming. I was just trying to determine whether I can direct traffic via a specific server to make sure I am getting what I pay for.

The speeds I get are tested from my laptop wireless connected to my Orbi mesh network.

That is what I figured. As I noted above my ~180mbps is from my wireless connected laptop.

Believe it or not I actually used one of these devices in the early 1980's. The good old days of 300 baud.

“Your” internet speed is not indicative of “their” internet speed of a server you are accessing of whatever webpage. Blazing speeds are nice, I’m on a gigabit myself and get 450-600 on Wi-Fi even. That however does not always translate to blazing speed for the reason I mentioned above.

No. You can't.
