Default Trying out a speaker, opinions?

Has anyone ever listened to the Music Culture speakers. There are only two models, a floor standing and a stand mounted model. They are by Wolfgang Meletzky, the former designer and owner of MBL. After he sold MBL he started Music Culture, again hand made in Germany.

A friend has loaned these to me.... he may not get them back ....

Randy,

I've not heard these but, as with almost any gear, how they sound to you is the most important measurement.

Have fun listening!

During first listen last evening, at a low volume level, they were pretty amazing. Clear and open with an absolutely amazing sound stage.

There was one part that surprised me. A percussion section in an Emilie-Claire Barlow song that I thought my wife was knocking on a wood cabinet down stairs. I never heard that before.

I have to put them through their paces at various sound levels, etc., but I was shocked at how clear and accurate they are. After listening to maybe 20 songs I have to say that Wolfgang really knows his stuff!

He certainly went in a quite different direction from his MBL designs. Perhaps a non-compete agreements regarding "petals"??

They do have a certain aesthetic that reminds me of KEF speakers.

The electronics have a similar look as the MBL, but certainly not a copy. The speakers are completely different than the MBL's (a club member has a full MBL system, absolutely amazing), but definitely have the amazing sound stage presentation that the MBL are known for.

I watched a video of Wolfgang at a European show introducing his two systems. He stated that he was aiming at offering extreme high end sound and quality at a fraction of the price. His room won best of show and it was stated that the top system was in the area of $30k - $35k total, but the reviewer felt it competed against the $100k + systems in the other rooms.

I had mentioned to my friend that I eventually would love to get a pair of KEF Reference 1 speakers. He said listen to these MC and you probably won't be wanting the Refs any more.

I cannot say that is the case as of yet, but I can say first listen at a low volume last night was pretty darn impressive.

That in itself Randy speaks 'volumes'. It's something I consider important.

I know when I auditioned the Bryston Model T floor standers that is an area where IMO they fell flat.

I agree Dave. That is probably the single most important aspect to me.
