I was very impressed by the ref 5 and 210 monoblocks driving a pair of strads. Makes me want to go and listen to the anniversary preamp

Yeah the REF 210's sounded nice with the Vandersteen 7's at RMAF.

Just received my January TAS that has a review on the Anniversary Preamp by JV. To say he likes it is an under statement!

It received their overall Product of the Year award . It's interesting because in the review he said the Ref 5 is better than the Ref 3 in every sonic attribute but still sounded like the Ref 3. He called it a hot-rodded version of the Ref 3. However, the 40th Anniversary Preamp he called a completely new animal. Superior to anything he's heard and only equaled on some attributes by Soulution and Technical Brain preamps many times the price of the ARC REF 40th Anniversary Preamp. I really want to hear one but no chance. My ARC dealer is not going to bring one into his shop

Serge...how many hours does the REF 5 have on it? If it is brand new, the bass performance especially will drastically improve after 400-600 hrs. If it is fully broken in then you should be fine.
