Default McIntosh Data Cable for MR85 Tuner

I have a McIntosh MA6600 and MR85 Tuner in a secondary system. The MR85 Tuner does not have remote capability. If I connect the MR85 data ports to the MA6600 integrated, will I be able to use the MA6600’s remote to change from 1 preset station to another? Would I need 1 or 2 data cables? Are the data cables the same as the the power cables that enables me to turn on/off the tuner via the MA6600?

So I asked 3 distinct questions and I am hoping you McIntosh guru’s can answer all of them!

You should be able to control it with the one data cable. A second cable would still be required to enable remote turn on/off and yes these both use the same type of cables. Keep in mind that no audio signal is transmitted over these cables so you can use as cheap of cable as you like. I purchased mine from Amazon and found a blue braided cable that I thought looked nice and used those.

Default McIntosh Data Cable for MR85 Tuner

I thought more about what I noted above and forgot that the MA6600 allows for the addition of the McIntosh tuner module and because of that, it does not have a tuner data port output for one. Because of that, I’m not sure now if it can control the MR85. I’m sorry, someone here that has an MA6600 should chime in.

The bottom pin of the 3.5mm connector is ground and shared with the circuits. A non shielded cable will pull in RF and EMI noise to ground. Although I can’t guarantee it, a well shielded control cable should in theory offer less contamination to your sound hence better sound.

Not sure what you are looking for but I have a 25pin cable for my McIntosh Tuner to connect to an older Mac Preamp/Integrated I no longer use. Let me know if you want to purchase it.

That makes sense. My information came from others that have chimed in before about this and nothing was said about needing a shielded cable. I only recently switched out my Radio Shack data and power control cables and replaced them with some braided cables from Amazon for bling alone. I just like the way they look and they work fine.
