What other Mcintosh cd player does the mcd 205 compare to? From 201? 301? 350?

The MCD205 was classified as a changer and not a player. It's performance specifications were not as good as those of dedicated players like the MCD301. The latter had more advanced multi-bit digital to analog converters, upgraded transport with twin laser technology, fiber optic solid state front panel illumination, etc.

Thanks. Apparently you will have to buy an external DAC for a CD player. Most likely I'll take a Mcintosh d100.

Your best digital sound would come from computer (hard drive) to D100/150 to amplifier. Better than spinning disc.

I finally bought an MCD 205, very happy with the purchase. Nice warm sound and the convenience of a changer ...
