Usb-any thoughts?
My next (I know I am a slow tech guy) project, since I have IMHO, purchased one of the best digital units available, is computer hi-rez downloading. My 089, thankfully, has several digital intputs for that. Any hints, suggestions? Thanks.

Uhm... is this a question, comment, or rant?
Can you give some more detail so we can attempt to entertain your <insert whatever you were trying to get to>?

Yes, get one that looks like it belongs in an audio system and not your laptop with some cable hanging off it.

Talk2me...this is all i could find on the 089 CD player from the Burmested site: "The Top Line 089 Belt-Drive CD Player combines brand-new developments with distinguished technologies from our Reference Line products. The interplay between the Burmester-invented belt-drive, SRC-function to 96kHz/24bit or 192kHz/24bit with the according conversion, is regarded internationally as benchmark technology. The belt-driven CD Player has the advantage of decoupling the laser from the drive motor. As a result, the readout of the CD is significantly higher, because it is not afflicted with electrical jitter. The belt-drive is located in a solid, low-resonance chamber.
Due to its two digital inputs and selectable volume control, the 089 has an additional preamplifier-function. The digital inputs allow the connection of further external sources. These sources can also benefit from the internal, improved D/A-converter (up to 192kHz/24 bit). Music is reproduced at its utmost perfection. Like all Burmester components, the D/A converter is designed with balanced circuit technology. The subsequent filter stages and X-Amp2 output stages, are fully balanced without distorting capacitors in the signal path. For the use of the preamplifier function, the 089 is also equipped with an analog input for the connection of analog sources. Like the 088 Preamplifier, the 089 CD Player uses X-Amp2 modules for the outputs. These modules, formely only used in Burmester Reference Line products, are primarily responsible for the extraordinary sound that has been awarded with numerous reference titles in the past." I am assuming there is a USB and an SPDIF digital input (it mentions 2 digital inputs). Do you know if the USB interface can also support 24/192 files. I am pretty sure the SPDIF connection will be able to do so. Do you also know if the USB uses asynchrnous transfer mode (where the computer is slaved to the 069's DAC)? If no on either/both, I would bypass connecting your computer to the 069's DAC via USB and get a USB-to-SPDIF converter (there is the Bel Canto USB-to-SPDIF 24/96 converter that now goes for $249 i believe or better yet get an M2Tech Hiface USB-to-SPDIF converter which supports 24/192 files and it goes for $180). Then you can use your computer as a transport (using any of a number of Music management software - iTunes, Foobar, etc...), connect via USB-to-SPDIF converter using a standard digital coax cable into the SPDIF digital input on the 069. Check out the guide from dCs for Computer Audio below. It was posted by Tommy-C on May 11 on this forum. Very helpful and will give you step-by-step instructions. I hope this helps and good luck. Enjoy the new 089. It looks beautiful. http://audioaficionado.org/digital-m...ter-audio.html |
