I just talked to Chuck Hinton at McIntosh regarding their collaboration with Roon and a specific issue I've had when playing Roon through my D100.
For some reason the D100 display only shows 24 / 192 as the file spec. It never changes. I do have files of varying spec, from 16 / 44.1 to 24 / 192. Chuck advised that the D100 only shows what the computer is sending it. So I've asked Roon Support to advise on any Roon settings that need to be updated to show native specs. The information on Roon's collaboration with McIntosh is awesome to see.

It’s worth noting that the Mc products are designated “Roon Tested” not “Roon Ready”. Roon Ready is the highest level of integration.

To be integrated, “roon ready” they would have to be on the network.
None of those devices listed above are network players.

Actually my Linn streamers are Roon tested, not “ready,” and they are network streamer/DACs. The difference as I understand it is that, to be rated as Roon Ready the device must have Roon’s RAAT protocol embedded. Linn, as an example, opted not to use Roon’s proprietary streaming protocol, but instead to adapt their own protocol to accept Roon streams. Functionally I can see no difference. From Roon: “Roon Ready network players from our partners have Roon’s high-resolution streaming technology built right in. Roon will discover them on your network, deliver the highest possible quality audio, and even allow volume control right from the Roon user interface!” “Roon Tested devices from our partners have been profiled and tested by both Roon Labs and the device manufacturer for maximum compatibility. Roon will recognize these devices and send them audio optimized for their capabilties.”

You are right that your Linn is Tested and not Ready, but in order to be Ready it will have to be connected to the network in some way or fashion. I’m not saying all network players can be Roon Ready.
Since all of the McIntosh pieces listed above are not on the network, they can’t be descovered by Roon. They can’t be used as an endpoint. They couldn’t be Roon Ready, not because they don’t meet the quality etc, simply because those devices are not on the network. https://m.soundcloud.com/johnhdarko/...nno-vandermeer

Disappointing they have not extended to the flagship C1100 pre amplifier - not sure why given it is their top end preamp

The C1100 is all analogue. All the listed products have built in DACS. |
