Hi - I`m new to this forum so first I`d like to say hello to everyone. Further I`m not a native english speaker - so please ignore wrong spelling and stuff ;-)
I just purchased the C52 and I think that it is a fantastic Pre! It sounds amazing and it has everything one would wish for. I`d like to concentrate on the phono-section (as I can not open a separate thread I thought I´d hear your thoughts in this existing thread). I think that it is crazy good. I`ve been comparing it to my external Whest Three Signature and at first I thought that the Whest was a little better. Then I noticed the gain sections were set differently (Whest at 72db - McIntosh at 60db). I then adjusted the gain and set the Mc to 200 Ohm for my System and voila - it really blew me away. Now I always thought that the Whest was impossible to beat and a real bargain at 3.500 Dollars - so that leaves me jaws wide open as to how much love McIntosh must have put into it`s integrated phono! It has actually started me thinking, that I might go completely without an external phonosection and concentrate in the integrated only. Any similar thoughts/experience on this subject here ? It`d be great to hear your thoughts on this

That is indeed high praise for the phono section of the C52 as the Whest is meant to be very good.
I have a C100 and a C2300 preamp and it wasn't until I tried an Allnic H-1201 phono pre (used price $2k) that I thought the phono sections of the C100 and C2300 were beaten. I'm going to have to try and take a listen to the C52.

Hi - I`ll also do some more testing/comparing. I thought the Whest Three Signature (retails at 4.000 Dollars I believe - 3.500 Euros) was a real bargain - it easily beat the Pass and Audio Research models and it was only until the 10K Whest Titan that I could notice a real step forward.
It seams that McIntosh have put a lot of work and love into the phono section of the c 52 and it seems to have improved lots when I hear reviews of the c50 or the 2300. As I have never heard these before, I can only rely on third opinions though...
