Default How's your fuel milage?

Before my new Tahoe LTZ, I owned a 2012 Ford King Ranch F150 4x4 with the 5.0L V8 engine. It's typical fuel milage was 13.0 mpg when running errands and 15.3 mpg on the highway using cruise control. That's the best the F150 ever got moving its 5400 lbs. down the road.

Before the F150 I owned a 2012 Jaguar XF with the 5.0L V8 that produce 385 HP with the six-speed automatic transmission. That vehicle was quite peppy and was difficult to keep one's foot out of it because it was so quick and sounded so good under throttle. Despite my driving habits with the Jag and its 4100 lbs. of weight, I still managed 19 mpg running around and 24 mpg on the highway. Not bad for a lead foot enjoying a healthy V8.

What has surprised me is the 2015 Tahoe LTZ, with a 5.3L V8 and six speed automatic transmission, manages to deliver a consistent 19 to 20 mpg running around doing errands and delivered 24.4 mpg as its best highway mileage so far. Considering the Tahoe weighs just over 5300 lbs., I consider the highway mileage to be excellent for a vehicle of its size and weight.

The photo below was taken this afternoon of the Tahoe's information center after driving Marlene to a doctor's appointment and back home(25 miles round trip), then into Live Oak to the pharmacy, the bank, and then back home (28 miles round trip). I averaged 20.5 mpg during todays drive. Naturally I'd be happy to get twice that mileage but for a full size SUV that is good fuel mileage. I attribute this directly to GM's new 5.3L Ecotec3 engine with direct injection and active fuel management that deactivates four cylinders when extra power isn't needed. It works seamlessly and I think the fuel mileage for this class of vehicle speaks for itself. Color me happy.

So, how's your fuel mileage?

Dan - my 2014 Merecedes Benz CLS550 is stated at 18 MPG city and 27 on the highway, not too bad for the 4.6 L bi-turbo V-8. Realistically, driving around Atlanta suburbs on and off the highway I usually get between 21 - 22 MPG. If I had a heavier foot I'd probably get around 19 - 20 in town.

Buck.......The 2014 CLS550 is sweet ride. At 4255 lbs. and a 4.6L V8 bi-turbo, plus the performance that comes with it, I'd say you are doing great getting 21 to 22 mpg around town. I couldn't keep my foot out of the Jaguar, just too much fun. I'm sure the forced breathing with the bi-turbo arrangement on the engine helps keep those numbers up. Getting 27 mpg on the highway in a vehicle as heavy as the CLS550 is excellent. The lines are super aerodynamic. I'm sure that helps, too.

Driving in Atlanta can be a nightmare. I've been stuck on the Interstates around Atlanta more than once while visiting my grandmother who lived in Smyrna. You damn sure don't make good time or mileage during rush hour.

I get about 20 mpg out of my Lexus GS 300. I don't worry too much about it since I only drive about 6,500 miles per year.

Carlos.......Same here. I'll likely do 6000 to 6500 miles this year. Sometimes I drive even less. My 2012 F150 only had 13,266 miles when I traded it. It took me two and a half years to get there.

My old '01 Camaro SS had way better gas mileage but a thimble sized fuel tank. New 2015 SS I can get around 24mpg highway (pretty sure <10 in city), but at least I can fill a solid 16 gal in the tank on a top off.

Less than 10mpg, runs on 100 octane LL Av Gas, 215 HP, 1000cc, 119.7 mph in 1000', that was almost twenty years ago, not even competitive today.

With our A5 convertible, a 2 litre turbo petrol engine, we get about 20 mpg ... at 210 km/h on the 'Autobahn'.

When we drive slower, in the rest of Europe, we can squeeze 34 mpg out of it.

Our A6, 3 litre diesel, can even drive 40 miles on a gallon, and we can tank 21 gallons.

I drive about 15,000 miles per year.

E.......Yeah, the 19 gallon fuel tank in the new 2015 Camero SS is not much but I suspect you are getting better than 10 mpg in town, that is unless it is a lot of stop and go in traffic. Is your Camero the 6.2L, 6.2L Supercharged, or 7.0L V8 engine?
