Thanks Jerome. Today I visited my dealer to loan his Osiris but he has sold it recently. Too bad... This could have been (great) fun on the Sasha since I do like very revealing equipment and well layered 3D stereo image.
As an alternative (somehow), he proposed me an Ayre V5xe. I might take it home on Saturday.

There is a black Rega Osiris on Audiogon today for $3995.00. Now that is a great deal for an integrated that retails for $9K.

Laurent,

Don't buy anything before hearing the Osiris then.
You will probably get the unit I have at home for a tryout ( it is GT Audio's one).

Tommy,
That's true. I'm starting to believe that no other SS amp could take the place of my tube amps in my main system ( or maybe a pair of 601's or a Burmester 911 or.....)
And I will add that voices on Mc amps, tubes or SS, are hard to beat. The 501's had a slightly more beautiful presentation of them.

Yesterday night I listened to a vinyl and a digital recording, with the Snappers, and I felt a "bass frustration" compared to what the Osiris did with the same recordings. Voices were better and as the vinyl was not a top notch recording master, it sounded generally better with those more forgiving amps. But the bass was not at the level of the Osiris. Well, to be honest with the Manley, they were cold. The brochure says something like " light them on. Then go call a friend on the phone, go to eat or do anything you want, but let them during 45 minutes and then come back for the music". That is the worst thing with tubes when it is 11.30 pm and you just want to listen to a recording !
Tough world !
I should have used the 2301's. The difference would have been lower. I will listen today to them to say if I miss the Osiris on the PMC speakers now....

Hi Jérôme,

Very true! I am enjoying your journey very much. I realize myself we can not have it all, yet. I have to say I really enjoyed my MC601's with the Conrad Johnson ET5 very much. They made a great combo, one I could have easily lived with - tube preamp with SS amp. The 911 mk3 is better than the 601's on the highs - more open and clear yet very natural and warm. The Burmester has more bloom, full, solid bass and bigger presentation. System matching is very important and I am glad you are having fun!

So Joe, for voices reproduction, do you prefer the 601's or the 911 mk3 ?

The 911 has been and is one of the most satisfying all around amps ever.

I do think vocals maybe more enjoyable on Conrad Johnson - after suitable warm up, although I have not heard their better tube amps.
