You will need to get a USB to Serial Port adapter and then proceed per the doc file included with the download:

"MX136 Update Procedure:
------------------------------------
1) Make a record of all MX120 SETUP menus, as all changes will be lost when factory defaults are restored.

2) Hook up a 9-pin Sub-D male/female cable to the PC. A null modem adapter is not required.

3) Run the “MX120Downloader.exe” program. Follow the instructions in the pop-up boxes.

4) When the Update is complete, turn on Zone A by pressing the red front panel STANDBY/ON button.
Press and hold the SETUP button for 3 seconds to enter the OSD menus.
Select the ADVANCED Menu, and then select the RESTORE DEFAULTS Sub-Menu.
Select 'YES' twice to clear the OSD settings.
The new features will now be correctly located in memory.
The MX136 OSD menus may now be re-configured."

You can get the USB/Serial Port adapter from Amazon: Amazon.com: Cables To Go - 26886 - 18in USB To DB9 Male Serial Adapter: Electronics

Yup, that is where I got my cable. The only thing that is making it a hassle is making certain I get all my settings recorded and re-set.

Wow! I must be very computer challenged. I have the USB/Serial Port adapter installed and connected from a usb port on my laptop to my serial port on the MX119. My problem is that it does not seem to not recognize the port and the installation fails each time.

Any suggestions?

Double check which COM # is assigned to your adapter, and see if it is compatible.

I'm still wondering what "fixes some issues and improves reliabilty" means. What issues are being fixed? What improvements to reliability are being addressed? What's the big secret all about?

Why don't you give Chuck Hinton at McIntosh in Binghamton a call? I'll bet he can walk you through it. I haven't done mine yet, so I don't know which COM # it wants to use, either.
