I learned that Roon does not send music files to your DAC, but sends data streams, either PCM or DSD. So, for instance Roon decompresses the FLAC files before sending the PCM data to a DAC. It does not send the FLAC file.

This is how Roon operates and is not a function of DSP options, while the data is still bit perfect.

That may or may not be why some people say Roon sounds better and others don't like Roon for doing that. This could also be an issue with poor Wi-Fi.

That was your post. A lot of people seemed to be trying to help but you weren't giving them much information to work with.

So where exactly are your files?

Is this location on your network?

How far down into the network directory does Roon have to dig to find the location and the files?

"If" this is the same guy they were his iTunes files sitting on the network. Whoever it was just needed to point at them. The only problem I could see if they were in a format that cannot be read. Probably needed to mount the drive or just extend the full name.

Jim...seems as though this is exactly the issue. Roon doesn't care what type of file they are, it just needs to know specifically where they are.

In Post #8 of this thread I discussed the issue of how far Roon will look down into a network directory to find files. My experience was that it only goes so far. In my specific setup, with my NAS as the root directory, I elevated my music files to the next level below \\NASXX\.

From there I have several music folders which contain files of a certain genre or type, i.e. \\NASXX\1. FLAC, 2. \\NASXX\2. New Music, \\NASXX\3. Holiday Music, etc... You'll note that the music folders are only one level below the file directory. I could not get Roon to dig any further down but that may have been due to my technical shortcomings.

My ROON setup found album folders down this far:

//NAS/audio/FLAC/24bit/album.

I simply pointed it to //NAS/Audio.

That's my case too.

However, please note that the correct nomenclature uses reverse slash (\) instead of regular slash (/).

So in your example you would tell Roon the location of your files this way:

\\NAS\Audio
