The way I phrased it was limited in performance without the external clock. Which it is if you think about it. If anything has the potential to be better, then it is limited until then. I can't say for sure if the Schiit DACs would benefit from an external clock, perhaps but clocks do not have to be rudely expensive either. There are solutions out there. I am in no hurry to explore an outboard clock because I am enjoying the Gungnir just the way it is, which in itself is almost half the price of Yggy. It is a limited performance I am very happy with.

Thank you Dan. I appreciate your unbiased reviews with no preconceptions of how the comparisons will end up. Well done.

Not many magazines offer the unbiased reviews and comparisons if they rely on advertising fees. The unbiased opinion of those whose ears you can trust is always the best source. We are fortunate to have members among us that offer us that valuable insight here on AA.

Great review Dan, thanks for taking the time to share your impressions. I did not know the Schiit DAC was only for PCM but it is no doubt a bargain performance wise. Maybe we will see a Schitt DAC in the future that has DSD and MQA .

Unlikely. Schiit made their stand on DSD and MQA. How many DSD files does a typical audiophile have? They have however said that if anything changes on DSD front and it becomes popular (as much chance as Abe Lincoln crawling out of his grave and running for the next president) it can be implemented. They already made a DSD DAC before. If you do have many DSD then other dacs are out there for you. With MQA I think they are taking the wait and see approach

David......Appreciate the kind words. Thank you.

As for DSD or MQA, I don't believe we will see either of those formats introduced by Schiit Audio. In particular, Mike Moffat is adamantly opposed to being harnessed to unending licensing fees. These added costs always end up as increased pricing consumers pay for a product. Mike is not a big fan of following other's rules. His philosophy is one of many reasons Schiit Audio has prospered and shown such rapid growth in ten short years. Personally, I think they are on to something here.

Mike Moffat is quite the character, along with his partner Jason Stoddard, as you can see in the interview with John Darko.

Yet another stellar review Dan, as per usual. It's another review I'll have to read more than once to fully digest, but suffice it to say I'm quite interested in hearing this bad boy, as you already know.

No doubt a fabulous product, and yet another fabulous review.

Serge.......Yes, my studio overhead lighting is incandescent and dim-able. When not on full bright the lighting casts a gold tone on silver gear. I like the effect.

I watched this video and agree, he is a character. I never really thought about it the way he puts it but he makes a lot of sense. So a good topic for another thread does MQA and DSD, have us all brain washed ?
