Lamm always disappoints when I hear it, except at the CES demo referred to above.
There, playing Dead Can Dance, it was magical.
I think Lamm needs to be very carefully matched to the rest if you want to own it.
For me it's just not that good to bother

That's too bad. I haven't listened to all of his products, I still use the original ML2 SET, which is very 'real' and musically and tonally correct, over a pair of very high efficiency horns.

The Q7 were the most amazing speaker I have ever heard when driven by the big Dartzeel amp: highest level of dynamism, extremely musical, lowest distortion. They sounded also amazing with the small constellation audio and with Vitus amp. I always found Magico speakers too fast and transparent for tubes. I would prefer using a pure class A like the Vitus or a very musical amp like the Dartzeel to get both the musicality of tubes and the speed and transparency of best transistors
Totally agree. Not really sure why this dealer would match those two. If he had to use Lamm, the only amp which may work (and IMO- it still wouldn't be a great match) would be the 1.2's, a hybrid design that is able to generate gobs amount of current.

I had a similar experience with Audio Research (REF 210s) driving the Q5's. The music just sounded slow and off. While the Magico's aren't my cup of tea (that's not to say they aren't a great speaker), they sounded significantly better paired with Boulder and Spectral.

Yep i'd give the tick to Boulder as well. My Dealer raved about the Magico S5's paired with Boulder 1050 mono's, a 1010 pre & a Vitus SCD-025 front end.

The best I've heard ML3s was in a friend's place in Danville. He had X2 Series 2s and a pair of JL Gothams.

If I were to pair an ML3 with a Q7, I would definitely bi-amp the bass modules. There's no way an ML3 could drive it by itself and have them sound their best. After all, IIRC the Q7 can be bi or even tri-amped unlike other models lines (M, rest of Q and S). Ken was doing this with the Magico Ultimates.

Maybe Ken at Sound chamber just hadn't got to doing that yet.

I'd love the hear the ML3's with the Big Wilsons. I think that pairing was at a CES that I couldn't get to.

I just read a review of the Lamm 2.2's by Robert Harley and he used Magico Q7's...
