The numbers on the box my CV-181 T MkII came in are, I think, 811 and 810 (the hand writing is not perfect). Bought them from h salience.

That is the reading from the tube tester. h_salience will usually state in the listing whether the tube is premium or classic. Either is fine in these amps.

Has anyone used any alternative rectifier in the LP-27a other than the stock 80 (5Y3)? I seem to recall a post mentioning the use of a 274 rectifier in the Pre, although I admit I'm not sure if it referred to the LP-27a. Anyway, thanks for any feedback.

I never heard/read that. The rectifier change may be hazardous to the 27/56 tubes. I'd try a 6SL7 if you want more gain.

Thanks for the observation. No, I don't need any more gain, I'm more than satisfied with the Pre always at mid-dial or so, plenty of SPL. I'm just curious.

On a Triode-strapped Inspire amp paired with a LP-27a Pre:

PRE:

Ballon-Type Sylvertone 56's
Shuguang CV-181 T (Black glass, white base)
RCA Radiotron 80

AMP:

GL KT-77
Psvane CV-181 T-II (Gray glass, Bronze base)
SE Mesh Plate 274B

Velodyne 160 Watts SUB Crossed at 45 Hz

Tekton Lore 2.0 speakers

Until the arrival of the RED MOD Filter pair (100Hz) and the Caps upgrade (TF Cu VCaps), my best setup so far

Last fall I attended a swap meet where there was a guy selling 27 and 56 tubes for $1 each. I picked a few up, even though I don't need them, just in case I got around to getting one of Dennis' preamps. Most inexpensive audio tubes I've seen in quite a while. There were also a bunch of vintage 6V6GTs selling for $5 each.

So I'd been reading up on power tubes and possible alternates to the GL KT66's in my Inspire Fire Bottle PSE. Not unhappy at all with the sound just wanting to learn more and seeing as I'm a huge fan of good 6L6 tubes I stumbled across some threads about the new Tung-Sol 7581A tubes.

Said what the heck and went ahead and ordered a quad of the 7581A's and I figured at $100 for the four of then, if they didn't work it wouldn't be the end of the end of the world.

These TS 7581A's are incredible sounding!

They have the best attributes of really good 6L6's (crystal clear, great highs, big soundstage) along with the bass and slam of the GL KT66's. The dynamics of these 7581A's are stunning!

Interestingly, the 7581A's sound better with a Brimar 6SL7 driver than my various NOS 6SN7's.

Thanks for the heads-up! Yet another potential avenue ... I wonder how these would compete with my preferred 6L6: 6P3S-E. This is a never-ending obsession ... Hey FloridaBoy, take note!

Edit: I just checked the datasheet and it boasts the exact same max plate current in Triode (250 Volts) of the 6L6 GC (44 mA), so in my book it should not make much of a difference in my rig ... But, what do I know, right?
