New DB Series Subwoofers

Earlier this year I've put a pre-order in for a pair B&W DB3D's to go with my B&W 804D3's which I then cancelled and opted for the Rel S5 SHO's which are very good btw.

I then moved my existing JL Audio E112's to my HT room but now after 6 months I've replaced my HT speakers with the B&W 704/htm71/706 and the dual JL's are too big for the room anyway so ... I've re-ordered 2 B&W DB3D's to go with my 700 series speakers. These subs are much more compact and I can put them behind my 704's. I only need to wait 2 weeks now before they will be delivered and will then sell my JL's.

Will I notice much difference by adding DB1D to 800 D3 speakers in a larger room? The 800s seem to go plenty deep well under the hearing limit.

I think concerning subs almost EVERYTHING is decided by the room itself.
In my case, I have LESS bass with DB2D in combination with 804D than just the 804D playing. Just occasionnaly a bit more infrasonic.

And don't forget to buy the newest I-phone when ordering a B&W sub because the room EQ still doesn't work on Android, even with the latest phones.

Because they don't specify an SPL to go along with it, making those numbers mostly meaningless.

As frequency halves, displacement quadruples to make the same SPL.

Without knowing linear displacement (Xmax) or volume displacement (Vd) you don't know how low and loud these will go.

I'm hoping B&W will publish that info.

They look pretty decent actually. The 12" compares favorably with the JL Audio F112v2.

The 5 band eq will help integrate the sub into the room.

It has presets - I'm not sure why you'd need them. One sign of a correctly setup sub is you never have to touch it. Ever. But if you like to tweak they give you that opportunity.

Bravo B&W for entering the true high end sub market.

Now give us some meaningful specs!

I think it's easy to create a cd with a wave generator program and programming a sine wave at -3db starting at 5hz for 5 sec then 6 hz 5 sec and so on.
Very easy to "count" when the sub really starts working.

on yesterdays listening session I finally discovered the holy bass grail.
With 804D2 as preset in the B&W app and all parameters almost to maximum, I saw a lot of movement from the conus of my DB2D but there was no decent subsonic information => perhaps mostly due to room modes / bass cancelation since 804D2 is placed 0.5 feet from rear wall.

With preset on 803D2 (so in combination with 804D2 speakers) it works like magic !

My DB3D just arrived--it's awesome. Bass is taut and deep, and everything is smoother. While it waits for a pair 805s which are en route, I am using it with a pair of CM-1s that had been previously paired with a REL T5.

I am a bit confused on tuning--I used the app and checked the CM-1 S2 (figuring that was close enough since my generation was not available). But after I set the sub automatically, I am allowed to set the level, and I find that I prefer -5dB to 0. 0 just seems mighty heavy to me.

So that's cool, but I wonder if I am lowering the level because I am correct that the bass is too heavy at 0, or if I am simply accustomed to the weaker bass of a system that was too small for my room. And why am I even allowed to lower the level if the software was supposed to optimize the sub for me? It would never occur to me to use the tone controls on my preamp--isn't this the same thing?

Four weeks ago i bought the DB2D. Blind. Not heard it before. And read no reviews. You can read a lot of the DB1D and some of the DB3D. And saw the DB3D which is way too tiny for my mind. I'd always think that there's something better out there so the DB2D should be a perfect match for everything.

It was for the low end for my Nautilus 802. I mean, i already had a Sub. A REALLY big one. Cabasse Volcano A30. But... 20 years old and i loved the easy setup/room correction in advance of the new B&W-Subs.

Hey, WOOOOOOOWWWWW! What a difference! It can go REALLY deep and you never had compression effects in room.
Set it to 43 Hz and 12dB as there's no profile for the old Nautilus-Series.

It set me on fire again and the High-End-Virus came back again.

Two weeks later i ordered the 802D3 in white and received it 6 days ago.

Tipp for enthuasiast: Bladerunner 2049. Will blow you away with some bass and even secondslong infrabass later in the fighting scene.

One question is left:
What happens really in the "Input-EQ"? Neutral, Film, Musik, userdefined. The manual and help doesn't tell what exactly changes then. Do you know what happens?

Coming from the DB1 which I truly love.

Have a good opportunity to sell it and purchase the DB1D.

1. Would u say there will be an appreciative difference between the 2 even in moderate volumes?

2. This will be a "blind" purchase. Is there any risk in such a specific purchase by getting worse results than I'm receiving today with the DB1?

3. Any reviews/tests on the DB1D? Couldn't find any.

I'm a little troubled by the fact that the new one is slightly smaller and weighs 1 kg less and its S/N ration isnt that good as compared to the old one (not sure if this has any relevance in real life listening)

I picked up my new DB1D last week to go with my 803D3's. The setup with he app was a breeze and very simple. The sound of the sub integrated seamlessly with the 803 and it sound superb. Very tight fast, clear bass response.

Very happy with the purchase.
