I would not object to the Carbons. The 2Ce's are a phenomenal bang for the buck though!

My dealer in Ohio, Don Better Audio sold me these 2CE's and played them through a very nice high powered Musical Fidelity M6 500i integrated amp. Dual Mono design cranking about 500 watts of clean power per side. Wonderful sound. But weeks later, he demoed a 32 watt a side, tube amp by Line Magnetic Audio and the sound was still incredible.

Been a Vandersteen fan ever since that time....

My Cary is set to Triode mode and has 50 watts. No problem driving the 2CE's. The sound is fantastic. They are not a particularly tough load at 7 Ohms...

Here is something interesting. I went against all approved guidelines with regard to stands for these 2CEs. I have the stock stands, but also built two 3/4 inch thick wood platforms mounted on rubber wheels which the stands and the speakers sit on. I "wheel" each speaker into the position I like them for sound. And my chair is on wheels as well. So I often change the position for my listening "spot" and change the position of the speakers as well.

I wonder what Richard would think of the wood vs the steel for stand material? I love the practicality of the idea!

If I could get the 5As, it would be a no-brainer for me. Ha ha
I too, have the 2CE Sig II for two years now and with the 600 watts McIntosh mono block driving it, it's like magic. The airyness, soundstage, the clarity between the instrument, transparency, are all there. For the price, these speakers sound 10 times better compare the other brand that cost 5+ times the cost

Yes I agree 100% with your statement. I would love to have your MAC monos for mine. I just need to win the Powerball next week. Haha

I love speakers and Headphones that can scale up. I love my Sennheiser HD650's for the same reason. The better the amp and source the better they sound. The 2Ce's are in that same category.

So, no reason to let that go to waste. I spent a couple of hours enjoying them.

SME table $17,000
Atlas Cartridge $9500
Audioquest cables $24000
ARC Ref 5 SE $13000
ARC Phono $11,995
ARC Ref 75 $9000

and

The Vandersteen 2Ce Signature II's $2395 + $175 for stands...

I doubt I will ever hear them fronted by so much quality gear.

I have two impressions from this.

1. They sounded fantastic! It is really great to experience perhaps the best performance from a piece of gear.

2. My home system is really close in sound quality for a small fraction of this systems cost.

I am very pleased!

Big thanks to Jon for his consistently wonderful hospitality!
Truly a friendly and knowledgable dealer.

Every time I hear the ARC rigs over there, I want more...

Karl, Jon said they have 50 RSVP's for Richard's event on the 12th. Gonna be standing room only. The new amps run $50K + $52K for the Model 7's....This is going to be fun!
