I have read much of this thread and have to comment.

Although people disagree on the effects cables may have on the sound, I see none of the nasty back and forth that goes on at other sites.

With the antagonistic nature of the opening post link, it is a true testament to the site and posters.

OK, I am done.

I think you know where I am going with this, echoic memory of course.

Readily acknowledge all weaknesses in my testing methodology. We generally tried pcs, then interconnects, then digital and it was by no means a fast swap. It was blind, however and lots of fun , as we never failed to identify aq v verastarr. That said, it wasn't scientific at all (but fun).

And when I read 'fun' a couple of times, I guess some booze enhanced the experience...

When it comes to cables there's no single best solution because there are so many external interdependent factors. These include the amplifier topology and load impedance sensitivity, the speakers' complex impedance, power amplifier input impedance, preamp output impedance etc etc, and even factors such as the local environment and level of RF field strength, as well as the purity of the local mains supply.

For reasons above and many more the most expensive cables are not necessarily going to be the most preferred in a system, and ironic as it may seem, the best engineered components will be least sensitive to cables and will tend to make them all sound more similar than different.
