Default Ilona Knopfler

For those of you into female vocals, we heard a young French chanteuse last night, and enjoyed the show so much we stayed for the second set. The theme of the evening was Jazz Standards, and included a number from her CD "Live the Life". Ilona has a very strong and clear voice and sang some very difficult syncopations. She's moving soon to Connecticut, but her family is here in Atlanta.

I spoke with her father between sets, and he told me he owned a restaurant in Hong Kong during the time I lived there, so we had fun talking about a few mutual acquaintances.

Howie, Ilona sang as a teenager in Hong Kong, and her father told me she sang once at the Wanch, my old neighborhood hangout in my (much) younger days.

Two thumbs up (me & the wife) - worth "previewing" on Amazon, especially for you Amazon addicts!

80B...I've heard of her but have none of her recordings. Sounds like you had a good time and enjoyed yourself. I will look for her recordings.

Does she have any relation with Mark Knopfler ? My question is stupid because you would have mentioned that...
I will check her on Amazon.
Thank you very much !

I didn't ask, but doubt it. I assumed the family may be from Alsace or Lorraine, as it sounds like a German surname.

Jérôme, you may remember a Frenchman who was on the radio 'back in the day' - Maurice Gardet. In Hong Kong, he was a mutual friend of mine and Ilona's father. He ran a restaurant there and kept everyone well entertained.

Jean-Marc,
Yes, she sang a few in French, and I'm sure has a larger repertoire than we heard Saturday night. I don't know how much time she's actually spent in France. From the bit I know, she spent her formative years in Hong Kong and much of the time since here. Her father has a restaurant here. By the way, she had a great rendition of 'Round Midnight (en anglais).
