I'm in PDX, too, and I got totally spoiled (and lighter in the wallet) with the pinots from a small family owned vineyard called Piluso. It's outside of Salem. Amazing, double gold winning pinots. Look them up online.

I'm here, Bill!

Lots of great recommendations in this thread. My focus remains with the NW USA wines. For WA state, I highly recommend Matthews and I believe all of their wines are in the under $50 price range. They make an excellent Syrah, and their Claret is also well worth looking for. Fidelitas (my overall favorite winery), Dunham (as mentioned earlier), and Five Star all make excellent wines in the $50 and below price range, although they also all make a few that push above that range also. I also really like the Long Shadows portfolio of wines, and just joined their wine club, but most of them push into the $60 range.

There are almost too many excellent Oregon Pinots to mention - my overall favorite Oregon winery is De Ponte Cellars. I'm interested in trying out the Piluso that John recommends and I will look for it. Another one I will be trying is the Toil Oregon Pinot Noir that is just being released by Figgins Family Estate which does their own Walla Walla high end wine and also produces Leonetti.

My home state Idaho wines continue to improve - if you ever find wines from Cinder, Fraser, Bitner, Coiled, or Telaya be sure to try them out. Not quite at the level of the high end wines from WA state yet, but the gap is definitely closing, and all of them are well in the $20-40 price range.

Cotes du Rhone is my go to wine no matter the season.

Rose's from France and old growth vines are great summer wines. They pare well with cheeses and fruit.
