On the picture of Bill Cosby above as a chief in the navy... I looked it up because I didn't believe it.
He was indeed in the navy for 4 years as a corpsman. However he only reached petty officer 3rd class. In 2011 he was given the honorary title of chief petty officer. It has since been stripped from him. The picture of young Bill is puzzling to me, because the uniform he's wearing wasn't for junior enlisted personnel as far as I know. It looks more like a marine uniform, but it's not one. I have no idea?!
