I prefer the sound of SACD better than CD.
Many SACD discs releases were originally recorded in analog tape or PCM digital; they were not recorded in DSD. The record companies used those older recordings, converted them with software to DSD64, and then released them as SACD discs. Today, it is possible for any user to utilize software (for example HQPlayer) to convert any regular CD to DSD on the fly. So in essence, you can listen to the DSD version of any CD without having to purchase the SACD (DSD) version. |

I will take a proper remaster direct from original analog tape to SACD all day long. Most times, not all of course, these bespoke remasters like the ones that SHM, Esoteric and many others have made are vastly superior to the CD versions and definitely to simply converting a RBCD version to DSD with your local computer program...this is true especially in the classical and jazz genres. IMHO and FWIW... Last edited by SCAudiophile; 07-08-2019 at 08:54 AM. |

I will take a modern DSD original recording over either of those options. |

A modern DSD original recording is definitely best. Unfortunately quite often while the recording is technically excellent, the performance or performers may not be quite so. |

‘‘Tis true. Can’t resurrect the talent of the past to record them on DSD/DXD There are however some interesting recordings out there and true gems once in a while. The Sound Liason “Feenbrothers play Dave Brubeck” one mike recording is a testament to talent of both the band and what a modern recording can bring to your system. It is a treat for the ears to say the least.
