My Oppo 980H is still going strong after over 4 years of use. Oppo makes great gear at a very reasonable price.

thebeatles67.......Thanks for the sound pressure list. Very interesting. I love listening to music, and don't wish to damage my hearing with long term exposure to high SPL's, but every now and then I will crank it up. It is astronomical what fine gear can do.

David.......I figured I would receive a warning from you. Yes, I am aware of OSHA studies. As an employer I was required to follow OSHA guide lines on many levels, including noise. We issued hearing protection and required its use in certain areas.

Thank you for the warning. I certainly don't wish to damage my hearing any more than it already is from all the years in the electrical contracting business. It is fun to twist the volume knob every now and then.

Cyril.......That would be interesting but more difficult physically than it would be worth. I don't use the digital outputs, only the 5.1 analog outputs so that I can take advantage of the on-board DACs in both players. The McIntosh MX120 processor only has a single set of multi-channel analog inputs, so there is no way a direct A/B comparison can be performed with my processor. By the time I stopped the disc from playing in the first player, made the six interconnect changes and started the same disc in the second player, my mind would have lost the perfect memory required to perform a totally honest and critical evaluation. I can tell you though, from what I am already experiencing in sound quality with the BDP-95, I am hearing deeper into the performances. It seems very similar to my impressions when I compared the MCD500 to the MCD1100.

When and if I decide to do a direct A/B comparison between the McIntosh MCD1100 and the Oppo BDP-95, I will be using the balanced stereo outputs from both players feeding the C1000P preamp while playing dual copies of the same CD or SACD simultaneously, and both outputs will be level matched. In this manner, making direct A/B comparisons by simply selecting a different input makes the comparison immediate, accurate, and extremely revealing of the differences. This is the only correct way to do an A/B comparison.

Another nice feature is you can have multiple BDP-95's and have the remote set to each machine (up to 3)
