What is the empirical evidence that the Mona Lisa is a great painting? What is the evidence that vinyl sounds better or worse than digital? That the Sonus Faber Aida’s are great sounding? The science fact is that it is possible for these things to be different and after knowing that one recognizes this is art which is to say it’s in the eye or ear of the beholder. I deal with evidence everyday in science. But not all questions, like “are these cables better or worth $$$”, can be answered scientifically or with evidence. No one has found the formula to measure what maximizes audio enjoyment.

And men did land on the moon. [emoji16]

Okay....so, I think this thread has digressed quite a bit off-topic.

The purpose was to discuss how an understanding of physics might support a scientifically interesting design embodiment in a patent application.

So....might I gently request that we center our discussion back to the subject at hand?

Scientifically and intellectually, I'm much more interested in a discussion around the premise of how a transverse axial polarizer might actually work for an audio cable application that re-hashing another "cable debate".

So...I'm still speculating/postualating that the functionality might be due to the TAP array functiong as a (single-mode?) waveguide. I don't have enough scientific/engineering expertise to know if this is indeed the case, but given that polarizing optical filters function as waveguides, it seems a reasonable starting point for consideration.

Also, if its possible to measure the magnitude (and/or direction if the EM wave is a vector force) of the transverse and longitudinal waves with continuous data, then one could examine this design statistically using a Design of Experiments (DOE).

Some of the factors for the DOE could be:
  1. No. of discs
  2. Thickness of discs
  3. Disc Outer Diameter (OD)
  4. Disc ID/OD ratio
  5. Space Between Discs
  6. Ratio of Disc Thickness to Disc Spacing

And, any interactions, e.g., disc thickness*disc spacing or ratio of disc ID*disc OD

Using an application like JMP 14, we could create a custom Design Matrix with 6 factors at 2 levels with quadratics in the model to examine any curvature in the functional response. A statistically valid model would allow us to know how many discs, the spacing, and other factors like ID/OD ratio might factor into maximizing the response(s), or put put the response "on-target" if that would be a better goal.

Signing out. This thread has become an example of the subjectivists versus the objectivists that has no possible way of ending and is filled with smart questions and pointed comments from both sides.

Puma,

I applaud your efforts to apply reasoning and science to more deeply understanding this great hobby of audio. Thank you for sharing your analysis on the forum. Right or wrong is not the point, I believe; the path forward is by trying. My knowledge of science is insufficient to really understand all the points raised in this thread, but through the discussion, I feel that I am learning, and that is always a positive thing. Thanks again, I really enjoyed reading about your thoughts and ideas. And of course, I love Shunyata cables. I previously owned an Anaconda PC.

I imagine it would be an EM field vector (force and direction). I presume that this is measureable; IIRC, Maxwell, Faraday and Tesla measured these. I'll leave it to Caelin or Grant to jump in if they so choose.

PHC1 you are being extremely rude. You are hijacking a thread trying to understand a cable technology (already rude) to insult everyone on this forum who ever paid a lot for a cable, calling us naive fools and you the only smart person. You are free to hold that opinion, but why must you play the troll by insisting on calling us all fools? If you want to troll on this, please go somewhere else. This is an audio aficionados forum, not a place to insult audio aficionados for the choices they make.

+1

For all: let's get this thread back on track.

No trolls here please. If I want that b.s. I can sign onto Agon or one of the other forums that have succumbed to them [emoji3]!
