Last night, I listened to to test samples of Qobuz since most folks say it sounds better than Tidal. Well, in my opinion, it still does not sound as good as a CD that has been imported as an .aiff filed and played back on the BDP-3. To me, hi res streaming from Qobuz had the same sonic trait as the D/A converter in the Oppo 105 that I sent back because I like the D/A converter on the Sony XA-5400ES better. In any event, I will stick with buying CDs, importing them and listening on my BDP-3. For me, streaming is not the answer.

Have not tried Tidal, Qobuz or Roon for that matter.
But, I really do like ripped aiff CD's through my BDP-3 too!

You may want to try either Tidal or Qobuz just so you can form your own opinion. But, with the equipment you own, I feel you will reach the same conclusion as I have reached. That is, imported music even in 44.1/16 sounds better than hi res. It just sound more natural. The hi res versions sound stepped upon. Its hard for me to articulate it, but I know its not a better sound; just different in a not too good way.

Having recently purchased some HD stuff just to see what all the "fuss is about,"
I concur no difference to the 16/44 aiff rips. Given this and your findings, the only reason for Tidal or Qobuz from my point of view is access to new and different material.

I would believe under the current setup you prefer CD over Streaming.

A lot can be done to make you scratch your head in amazement, it takes time and money.

Folks think they are saving money by using these alleged hi res streaming entities. They don't realize that the best way to listen to digital music is to import the music from a CD. As a matter of fact, since using Qobuz, my BDP-3 has locked up and cannot be used. Chris, I need help.

I've had somewhat the opposite experience. I have some CD's that are ripped and stored via JRiver and have found Hi Rez versions of the same albums on Qobuz. I find the Hi Rez versions of the same albums on Qobuz to sound noticeably better than the CD rip. My CD files are all AIFF and not compressed in any way. Two alums that I have compared quite extensively are; 1) Tideschi Trucks Band - "Revelator" and 2) Chirs Isaaks - "Heart Shaped World". Both have more texture, body and detail via the HR file on qobuz.

I'm currently subscribed to both Qobuz and Tidal to in order to determine which one I like better. I can say that I'd be hard pressed to be able to tell the difference between the same file being played in Hi-Rez Qobuz and a fully unfolded Hi-Rez MQA version of the same song. I use Roon for the first unfolding and my Lumin streamer for the second.

The scales currently tip for me towards Tidal simply because many of my favorite albums have yet to appear on Qobuz and also because there are a lot or albums listed as H-Rez on Qobuz that my streamer displays as standard 16/44 files.

No offense, but JRiver is not in the same league of the Bryston BDP-3 for sonics.
